Assisi is an oasis of art and architecture and home of San Francesco, one of Italy’s most beloved Saints. Upon arriving in Assisi, you will have the opportunity to visit the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli. It contains the Porziuncola Chapel where San Francesco died in 1226.
You can walk through the narrow streets of the village to see the Church of Santa Chiara where San Francesco was born. You can then see the house where he spent the first years of his life. Afterwards you can continue to the Town Hall Square with the People’s Palace and the Roman Temple dedicated to Minerva. Near the ancient city walls you will see the Basilica of San Francesco with its stunning frescoes from the 12th and 13th centuries.
